Questions we actually get asked

Everything you want to know before the first chew.

Sizing, safety, ingredients, shipping, subscriptions. We answer these every day — here they are in one place.

Product & ingredients

What exactly are these chews made of?

4 simple ingredients: yak milk, cow milk, lime juice, and salt. That is the full list. No rawhide, no fillers, no artificial color, and no mystery powders.

Where do they come from?

Our chews are made in Nepal using traditional Himalayan cheese methods, then checked and packed in the USA before shipping to you.

Are they actually natural?

Yes. The recipe is short on purpose: yak milk, cow milk, lime juice, and salt. What you see on the label is what is inside.

How long do they last?

It depends on your dog. Size, jaw strength, age, and chewing style all change the answer. Many dogs settle into a longer supervised session than they do with soft treats, but your first chew is the best reference point.

Do they smell bad or make a mess?

They are low odor compared with many animal chews. They are still a real dairy chew, but they should not leave greasy residue like some alternatives.

Safety & digestion

Are yak chews safe for my dog?

Yes, when sized correctly and supervised. Choose a chew larger than your dog can swallow whole, keep fresh water nearby, and take the chew away once the end gets small.

Can they break my dog's teeth?

Yak chews are hard by design, so they are not right for every dog. If your dog has weak teeth, dental disease, crowns, or a history of cracked teeth, ask your vet before using any hard chew.

What's the thumbnail test?

Press your thumbnail into the chew. If you cannot make a small indent, use extra caution for dogs with dental concerns. The test is useful, but sizing, supervision, and tooth health still matter.

Are they safe for puppies?

For puppies over 6 months with adult teeth coming in, start with a small size and supervise closely. For younger puppies still teething, we recommend waiting.

What about senior dogs?

Some senior dogs do well with yak chews, but dental health matters most. If your senior dog has missing teeth, dental disease, or a sensitive mouth, ask your vet first.

What if my dog swallows a piece?

Small pieces are usually easier to digest because the chew is cheese-based. If your dog swallows a large chunk or seems uncomfortable, contact your vet. Remove the chew before it becomes a swallowable nub.

How often can I give my dog a yak chew?

Most families use one a few times per week for evening wind-downs, work calls, or supervised quiet time. Treat it like any chew: use moderation and keep water nearby.

How long do they actually last per session?

Your dog sets the pace. Light chewers may use one over several sessions. Strong chewers move faster. The chew duration estimator can help you choose a practical starting size.

Chew duration & routine

What's the Nub Hack?

When the chew gets down to about 2 inches, take it away. Soak it in water, microwave it until it puffs, then let it cool completely before serving.

How do I choose the right size?

Match by weight and chewing style. When your dog is between sizes, choose the larger chew. A slightly larger chew is usually easier to manage safely than one that is too small.
